An unusual incident has been recorded in Italian football, where fans have reacted harshly to refereeing decisions, forcibly removing one of the leading figures in Italian refereeing, designer Gianluca Rocchi, from the stands.
The incident occurred at the end of the Carrarese–Catanxaro match, valid for the Serie B championship. Roki was in the stands as a spectator when the home fans erupted in protests after a controversial episode in the extra minutes of the match.
The dispute was over a penalty awarded in extra time to the home team. The shot was initially missed, but the referee decided to retake it. On the second attempt, the home team scored the goal that sealed the 3-3 draw, a decision that caused strong reactions in the stadium.
According to footage circulating on social media, a group of fans surrounded Roki in the stands, insulting him and accusing him of corruption. One of them even threw banknotes in his direction, in protest of the refereeing.
The situation became more tense and turned into a verbal clash with the fans, which forced the intervention of the police forces. Security officers escorted Roki through the crowd to remove him from the stadium, in order to avoid an escalation of the situation.
The referee designer was then escorted from the sports facility by police, with the incident expected to spark new discussions about the tensions and controversies surrounding refereeing in Italian football.
