Liverpool have been dealt a serious blow as striker Hugo Ekitike has suffered a serious injury that is expected to keep him out for around nine months.
According to reports, the 23-year-old footballer ruptured the Achilles tendon in his right leg during the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against PSG.
Ekitike was forced off the pitch on a stretcher in the first half of the match, which ended in a 2-0 defeat for Liverpool. This result sealed the Reds' elimination with a 4-0 aggregate score.
His injury led to the premature activation of Mohamed Salah during the match.
The serious injury ends the current season for the French striker. He is also expected to miss this summer's World Cup with the French national team.
Ekitike, transferred last summer for around £69 million, risks missing a significant part of next season.
His absence constitutes a significant loss for both Liverpool and the French national team, reducing the options in the offensive department for both teams.
