The powerful cyclone has hit the southern areas of Italy, but according to MeteoAlb, Albania remains outside its area of influence.
In this regard, MeteoAlb's weather forecaster, Lajda Porja, has provided details on the weather situation in the country and the effects of the cyclone that hit Italy.
"Fortunately for the Albanian territory, which is located entirely on the outskirts, the rainfall has been of low and medium intensity. Our country is not affected by this cyclone," said Porja.
Following concerns about the possible impact of cyclone 'Leoni 2' in the Balkans, meteorologist Lajda Porja clarifies that the Albanian territory has only been affected on the outskirts.
"The intensity of precipitation will decrease during Tuesday, but a temporary worsening is expected on Wednesday," the forecaster said.
According to Porja, the main problem will not be massive flooding, but strong winds.
"On Wednesday, especially in coastal areas and the Vlora region, wind speed may exceed 80 km/h, causing problems in maritime traffic and requiring increased caution from citizens near old trees or unsafe objects. A decrease in wind intensity is expected again from Thursday," Porja announced.
January is ending as a wet month, with many areas of Albania exceeding monthly rainfall quotas by 40 to 60 mm above normal.
Lajda Porja predicts that February will start with the same instability, alternating rain with clear skies, without any significant interruption with long sunny days.
Regarding the risk of flooding, the meteorology department reassures citizens by saying that alarming situations, such as those in Italy, or massive flooding of large rivers are not expected.
"There may only be local problems in certain urban neighborhoods due to sewage or intense short-term rainfall, but the major risk remains strong winds and not flooding," Porja said.
Although the thermometer is expected to record relatively high values for the season, reaching up to 15-16 degrees Celsius, citizens will feel cold.
Weather forecaster Lajda Porja explained that this is due to high humidity in the air and a lack of sunlight, creating what is known as "bitter cold."
As for snow, it remains isolated at altitudes above 900 meters and is not expected to fall in cities.
For those planning to travel to mountainous areas over the weekend, increased caution against frost is advised, as temperatures in those areas will be around negative values, keeping the snow unmelted.
