The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, reacted today to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
Begaj stated that the monstrous crimes of genocide against the Jews, the extermination of millions of people out of cruelty and diabolical hatred towards people because of religion or ethnicity, are the darkest side that forever weighs on the conscience of humanity.
Begaj also stated that the terrible crimes are commemorated in a way "that they remain in our memory and that of the entire world as evidence of the fact of where political degradation and blindness to totalitarian ideologies lead."
The Head of State also recalls the assistance of Albanians to Jews and their stance on the right side of history.
"The monstrous crimes of genocide, the Holocaust against the Jews, the extermination of millions of people out of cruelty and diabolical hatred against people because of their faith or ethnicity are the darkest side that forever weighs on the conscience of humanity.
We commemorate those terrible crimes so that they remain in our memory and that of the whole world as evidence of the fact where political degradation and blindness to totalitarian ideologies lead.
Our people proved in time of war that their soul remained pure, protected dozens of Jews from persecution or disappearance, becoming a wonderful example for our entire history.
"Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we pray for the millions of victims of the Holocaust and pray that such atrocities will never happen again," the head of state writes.
