Gjoka was placed at the center of the accusations after she was the judge who imposed security measures on former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and his son-in-law, Jamarbër Malltezi. Also, with Irena Gjoka's signature, security measures were imposed on former President Ilir Meta, but also on Fredi Beleri, the elected mayor of Himara, who was unable to officially take office, as he was in prison, accused of buying votes...
Irena Gjoka, who headed the Court Against Organized Crime and Corruption for a 3-year term, is now barred from exercising her functions as a judge. This is at least based on the verifications carried out by the General Prosecutor's Office, which forwarded the information to the Supreme Court of Justice, based on a letter that the Council had previously sent to the central prosecution body.
" After carrying out all possible verifications inside and outside the country, on 19.01.2026, the General Prosecutor's Office decided to approve the results of the verification, a decision which on the same date was forwarded to the High Judicial Council as the body responsible for verifying the conditions of the ban in implementation of Law No. 138/2015 "On guaranteeing the integrity of persons elected, appointed or exercising public functions", and Assembly Decision No. 17/2016 "On determining detailed rules on the implementation of the bans provided for in Law No. 138/2015 "On guaranteeing the integrity of persons elected, appointed or exercising public functions "", states an official announcement.
Based on the verifications of the General Prosecutor's Office, it appears that Irena Gjoka (Shpata, Maneku), who for months was at the center of the accusations of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, who was the first to denounce a conviction of hers in Greece, which the judge had not reflected in the decriminalization form, risks being left outside the justice system.
It is now up to the Supreme Court of Justice, as the institution that has the authority to evaluate the judge, to make a decision on what will happen to the member of the Special Court.
