Greece honors Yanullatos, divine liturgy held today at the Metropolis of Athens;

The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece announced that a divine liturgy service will be held today at the Metropolis of Athens before the body of the Archbishop of Albania, Anastasios Yanullatos.

The Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, Anastasios, passed away at the age of 95 on January 25, 2025 at the 'Annunciation' hospital in Athens, where he had been hospitalized since January 3.

The Divine Liturgy will be presided over by the Vice-President of the Holy Synod, Metropolitan of Nafpaktos and Saint Vlas, Ierotheos. After its conclusion, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos, will hold a service for the soul of the deceased.

The Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and the leader of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis, will participate in this service.

According to the announcement, the late Archbishop's body will remain in the Holy Cathedral of Athens, where it will be placed for public honors until Monday morning, when it will be sent to Albania.

In our country, the reception of the body of the late Archbishop will take place in front of the "Resurrection of Christ" Cathedral in Tirana, on January 28 at 4:00 PM.

Tributes will be held inside the temple during that afternoon and on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, at 11:00 a.m., following the Divine Liturgy. 

It was also decided to elect the Metropolitan of Korça, His Grace Joan, as the Locum Tenens of the Archbishopric. The election of Archbishop Anastasios Janullatos' successor will take place in a second phase.
