SPAK continues its investigations into former President Ilir Meta regarding the issue of lobbying in the US. Today, Gerald Gjeogjini appeared before the Special Prosecution Office as a person who has knowledge of the lobbying and is considered a personal connection to the former President.
According to TCH, Gheorghe has also been summoned as a person who has participated in every official meeting, dinner and private meeting of the former president.
Ilir Meta has been indicted by SPAK on 3 charges: "laundering the proceeds of a criminal offense or criminal activity", passive corruption of high-ranking state officials or local elected officials", refusal to declare, failure to declare, concealment and fraudulent declaration of assets, private interests of elected persons and public servants".
One of the issues for which SPAK has investigated Meta is that of lobbying in the US, for which, according to the Special Prosecution, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Socialist Movement for Integration Party, he has not declared an amount of 463 thousand dollars.
"During the period 2016-2017, Ilir Meta, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Socialist Movement for Integration Party, has concluded and executed contracts for consultancy and lobbying services with the companies Global Security and Innovative Solution LLC and the McKeon Inc Group in the United States of America. The investigation results in the fact that part of the financing of the contracts was made through bank transfers from the accounts of the political entity, the Socialist Movement for Integration, while the amount of 463,546.26 USD was not transferred from the bank accounts of this political entity. It also results in the fact that this monetary amount, which was not transferred from the bank accounts of the political force, was not reflected in the balance sheets of the political entity, the Socialist Movement for Integration, deposited with the Central Election Commission," SPAK's official announcement regarding the investigations against the former President said.
