A group of protesters gathered this Sunday in the park behind the Opera and Ballet Theater to oppose its demolition.
With the slogan "Keep your hands off the park", the Joint Movement has organized this protest.
"One of the last parks is disappearing in Tirana, the one that lies between the 9-storey buildings and the Opera and Ballet Theatre. Concrete violence is not prohibited. Corrupt rulers and illegal oligarchs are leaving us without one of the last public and green spaces left in the city," the protesters' placards read.
The towers are taking the breath away from Tirana, said Arlind Qori, the head of the "Joint Movement" in his speech.
"These towers are not only destroying it, they are not only taking our breath away, but they will not even have a minimum economic function. Look how the towers are in the dark, but they all turn out to be sold. Whoever buys them, buys drug traffickers, corrupt politicians, anyone who has governed and stolen this country in 32 years".
