Movement has begun at the Qafë Thana border crossing after three days of "blockade" due to the protest of Macedonian truck drivers.
From 8:00 PM tonight, the complete unblocking of Qafë Thana and all other border points between Albania and North Macedonia begins.
The blockade was organized by the North Macedonian Transporters Association, with the participation of around 370 truck drivers at 10 border crossings, in opposition to the new electronic entry-exit system in the Schengen area.
The solution came after the intervention of the European Commission, which will issue visas to the carriers.
North Macedonia's Minister of Transport, Aleksandar Nikolloski, announced that Brussels has accepted the requests and will introduce a new strategy for professional drivers.
However, carriers say that the visa regime is outdated, but are willing to accept the solution in the absence of alternatives.
