The Constitutional Court has decided today to suspend the decree of the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, which provided for the holding of early elections in the Municipality of Tirana on November 9, 2025.
This decision comes after the appeal of the current mayor, Erion Veliaj, who requested the repeal of the presidential decree, considering it legally unfounded.
Journalist Klodiana Lala, in a link for the show "The Unexposed", revealed that the Constitutional Court held tense meetings the day before, before making the final decision.
" According to my sources, the members of the Constitutional Court met yesterday and the debate was heated. Today, the meeting was finalized with the decision to suspend the President's decree."
The Constitutional Court has also decided that a plenary session will be held on October 31, where Erion Veliaj, representatives of other state institutions, and President Begaj himself will be summoned to the session, who will have to present his legal arguments.
"The court has deemed it necessary, before making a final decision, to hear the parties in an open session. In this process, the legality of the decree and the constitutional basis on which the President made that decision will be examined ," she said.
