The Albanian Ambassador to Skopje, Denion Mejdani, has reacted to the protest of Albanian students in North Macedonia, who are demanding that the bar exam be held in Albanian. The protest was also attended by students from Tirana, who traveled to Skopje to support the request of their Albanian peers in the RMV.
We recall that a bus with students from Albania was stopped at the Bllata customs, in Dibër, and was not allowed to cross the border to North Macedonia.
In his reaction, Mejdani emphasizes that young people are not seeking privileges, but dignity, equality and respect for fundamental rights.
In a reaction on Facebook, Mejdani says that when students are banned, it affects the very democratic understanding and European spirit that we aim to build as a region.
" When students are stopped, delayed, and intimidated while traveling to peacefully express solidarity for a linguistic right, the issue ceases to be merely procedural.
It affects the very democratic understanding and European spirit that we aim to build as a region.
Albanian students from Tirana traveled to the Republic of North Macedonia not for clashes, but for civic solidarity and to support a basic demand: the right to be tested and to practice their profession in their native language.
These young people are not asking for privileges. They are asking for dignity, equality, and respect for fundamental rights.
And a demand for dignity should never be perceived as a threat, especially in countries that aim to join the European family and build their future on the values of democracy, equality and fundamental rights," the Ambassador writes.
