Thousands of vehicles have been paralyzed for tens of kilometers, while thousands of citizens have been isolated in extremely difficult conditions, facing sub-zero temperatures and a total lack of movement.
The situation on the Prrenjas-Elbasan national axis continues to be critical even in the late hours of this Friday (January 2), turning into one of the most severe episodes of road blockage not only in recent years, but of all time.
Thousands of vehicles have been paralyzed for tens of kilometers, while thousands of citizens have been isolated in extremely difficult conditions, facing sub-zero temperatures and a total lack of movement.
According to information, the massive blockage even after 8:00 PM extends from the Bushtricës Bridge in Qukës, in the territory of the Prrenjas municipality, to the Fushë Labinot area in Elbasan.
This vital segment of the national highway has been transformed into a frozen corridor, with long lines of vehicles, complete chaos, and drivers waiting for hours without any direction or solution.
Drivers and passengers report extreme hardship, lack of assistance and constant insecurity, while staying in vehicles for long periods of time, without sufficient heating and without access to basic services, is further worsening the situation. Traffic has been paralyzed since the early hours of the morning, with no real sign of improvement.
According to preliminary data, the situation was significantly aggravated by the prevalence of bad weather, accompanied by frost and precipitation, but also by the lack of preparedness and irresponsibility of the companies contracted for road maintenance.
In problematic segments, ice on the road has created extremely dangerous conditions for traffic, causing total blockage and a serious risk to the safety of citizens.
What makes the situation even more worrying is the lack of official response. Up until now, there has been no public announcement on the concrete causes of the blockage, nor on the measures being taken to normalize traffic.
Surprisingly, even though the situation is described by citizens as catastrophic and unprecedented, the competent authorities have not intervened in time, nor have they informed drivers and citizens about the real condition of the road.
The stranded citizens express their outrage and concern for safety, health and lack of information, demanding urgent intervention to clear the road, distribute relief supplies and redirect traffic. According to them, this situation represents a serious failure of winter emergency management, on one of the most important axes connecting the east with the center of the country.
Meanwhile, the blockade on the Prrenjas-Elbasan axis continues, while thousands of citizens remain isolated on the streets, awaiting a response that is still lacking.
