Felix Bilani

Photojournalist Felix Bilani has recounted the moments he experienced during the national opposition protest, where, according to him, he was attacked with pepper spray directly in the face, losing orientation for a few seconds and falling to the ground.

Bilani said that such an event is unprecedented in the history of protests in the country.

"Never in the history of protests has anyone been attacked with tear gas or pepper spray in the face," he declared, describing the tense situation near the Democratic Party headquarters, where water cannons, police vehicles, and two DP deputies were present and were confronting the officers.

According to the photojournalist, he was performing his professional duty, with a camera in one hand and a phone in the other to shoot footage for the editorial office, when he was suddenly attacked.

"I didn't see anything anymore, I just felt the spray on my face and in 3-4 seconds I fell to the ground ," said Bilani, adding that the person who sprayed him was wearing a police uniform.

He said that after the incident he was transported by ambulance, where he was given oxygen, while emphasizing that the use of the spray should be done with caution, as the consequences can be serious.

"I am diabetic and have a heart condition. The police should know that they should not use spray against people without knowing the consequences ," he told "News 24".

Afterwards, Bilani said that he was taken to the QSUT, where the effect of the spray began to fade, but due to his deteriorating psychological and physical condition, he decided to leave the hospital of his own free will.

"I signed that I would leave of my own free will and went home. I drank milk and water, on the advice of my doctor friends ," he said.

Even the day after the event, the photojournalist claims that the consequences continue.

"My eyes are still very heavy because I was at a very close distance when the spray was used," Bilani concluded.
