The Director of AMP, Eduart Merkaj, reported on Monday to the committee on internal affairs and defense.
Merkaj was questioned by opposition MPs regarding the serious incident that occurred 5 days ago in Rinas, where Gilmando Dani and his companion Mustafa Sheqeri, an AMP agent, were killed in a mafia assassination.
Merkaj said that AMP has filed a report with the Tirana Prosecutor's Office regarding the recruitment process and work attendance of agent Mustafa Sheqeri.
"The situation of Rinas is sensitive and serious. Measures have been taken by AMP, either by exclusion and disciplinary measures, or by resignation of persons who have seen fit not to be part of AMP. Working groups have been established to control each of the AMP employees, if there were violations during recruitment or in the future. AMP has filed a report with the Prosecutor's Office not to spare any of the employees now. AMP, cooperating with the Prosecutor's Office, will establish an investigative group so that there are no allegations of bias. This is the part where we have not come up with concrete measures for AMP employees," said Merkaj.
AMP agent Mustafa Sheqeri, who was assassinated on Tuesday afternoon at the Rinas roundabout, passed away in hospital during the night of November 15. His death has been confirmed by Tirana police.
Gilmando Dani, Emiljano Shullazi's right-hand man, was executed in a mafia assassination attempt on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:00 PM, shortly after the victim and Mustafa Sheqeri arrived from Barcelona, where they had left on November 7.
As they were heading towards Tirana in a Benz vehicle with license plates AB 099UO, the perpetrators in another car ambushed them and opened fire. Police and forensic experts remained at the scene for more than 5 hours to conduct the necessary investigations.
Over 50 Kalashnikov rifle cartridges were found at the scene of the assassination, which were discharged with bursts from at least 3 weapons. The police found the perpetrators' vehicle burned in the village of Halil in Fushë-Krujë. Inside it were found 4 weapons, 3 Kalashnikovs and 1 pistol that are suspected to have been used in the assassination of Rinas.
