Criminal expert Ervin Karamuço has analyzed the possible penalty that Elvis Shkambi, the suspected perpetrator of the execution of Appeals Judge Astrit Kalaja, could face, an event that shocked Tirana and the entire justice system. He is accused of 3 criminal offenses.
In “Top Story,” Karamuço said that “unauthorized possession of a weapon is punishable by 5 years in prison,” while “murder of a public official is punishable by 30 years to life imprisonment.” He also added that “murder under qualifying circumstances, attempted, is punishable by 20 years to life imprisonment.”
Considering the serious nature of the event, the position of the victim and the circumstances of the assassination, according to the expert, the punitive measure that could be given to the suspect could be among the most severe provided for by the Criminal Code.
