The socialist mayor of Pogradec, Ilir Xhakoli, has blocked the economic aid payments for the months of February-April 2025, planning to distribute them just a week before the elections, with the aim of manipulating and luring voters. SPAK and the General Prosecutor's Office already have the documents of this election scandal in their hands...
On the eve of the May 11 elections, the socialist mayor of Pogradec, Ilir Xhakolli, has been openly involved in vote-buying manipulations, holding hostage for three months the payment of economic aid, which should normally be given at the beginning of each month.
According to official documents available to "Pamfleti", the Pogradec Municipal Council, at the request of Xhakolli, has belatedly approved the provision of economic aid for the months of February, March and April 2025. The payments were scandalously programmed to be distributed all together just a week before election day, to lure poor voters and influence the election result.
In decision no. 23, dated March 27, 2025 and letter no. 1631/2, dated April 17, 2025, it is clearly seen that this is an organized scheme with the aim of influencing the vote. Mayor Ilir Xhakolli, together with the Municipal Council, have used the poverty of citizens as a means of pressure for political gains, distributing social payments right on the eve of the elections.
The scandal is made even more flagrant by the fact that the payments will be physically delivered, family by family, by social service workers, groups of municipal officials, and SP leaders in the field. The names of the coordinators who will distribute the payments are already documented in all administrative units and the city of Pogradec.
These actions constitute clear evidence of an electoral crime, which SPAK and the General Prosecutor's Office Task Force, already located in the Korça District, must investigate immediately to prevent election manipulation.
