Two days before the elections, the old leaders of Albanian politics, Edi Rama and Sali Berisha, have repeated their well-known positions: they will not leave the leadership of their parties and politics, as long as they are alive...
Instead of talking about change, about new generations, or about political responsibility after losses, Rama and Berisha gave the Albanian public the same message: "We are eternal and irreplaceable."
Rama: I leave when I want you!
In a statement typical of his autocratic style, Edi Rama declared that he will only leave when he decides to do so himself, not when asked by critics or opponents who say "Rama go." Neither the party statute, nor eventual defeats, will stop him from remaining at the top of the SP.
The fact is that since 2005, when he took over the leadership of the Socialist Party, Rama has dissolved every statutory norm, even removing the obligation to resign in case of defeat. Today, the Socialist Party has not held elections for the party leader for 20 years, and every forum is under his absolute control.
Berisha: I'll stay as long as I live!
On the other hand, Sali Berisha repeated his old scenario: he will not leave the DP as long as he is alive. For him, neither losses, nor age, nor the free vote of the structures exist. He has already introduced into the statute the model of farce elections, where he himself is elected with 98% of the votes, facing puppet candidates who play the role of the competition.
Paradoxically, even though the DP Statute holds the chairman responsible for the election result, Berisha has publicly declared that he will continue to be chairman even if he loses.
Agreement for perpetuity and political survival
Rama and Berisha are competing only in form, but in essence they are in a silent pact for absolute rule. Both use the party as private property. Both have installed around themselves a caste of subordinates without integrity, who dare not oppose even when humiliated.
The list of deputies, the appointment of district leaders and party forums, is done only by the will of one or the other. Even the responsibilities for losses are passed down, so that they themselves remain untouched.
In case of failure on May 11, both have prepared the same solution: they will blame the political leaders of the regions. But none of them will be really punished, because they have been placed on the safe lists for deputies./ Pamphlet
