President Donald Trump has expressed moderate optimism about the possibility of a deal with Iran, stressing that it is by no means guaranteed. Speaking to reporters in Florida while boarding Air Force One, Trump spoke about the ongoing talks between the US and Tehran, revealing that the sides are discussing about 15 key points of a possible agreement to end the war.
"No, we have a very serious chance of making a deal. That doesn't guarantee anything. I'm not guaranteeing anything ," Trump said.
Trump added that he doesn't want to create false expectations and that he won't be back in a week or two to face accusations that he "said" something that didn't happen.
"The only thing I'm saying is that we are on the verge of a real opportunity to reach an agreement ," he said.
Among the main points of discussion, Trump mentioned that Iran's abandonment of its nuclear weapons program ranks first. He also suggested a shared interest in joint control of the Strait of Hormuz, where both sides have strong interests in the security of maritime traffic and the flow of oil.
However, the US president reiterated that he wants to see significant regime change in Tehran, calling this a "very serious" element.
