A wave of bad weather has swept central and southern Italy, as a result of the cyclone "Erminio", causing serious problems in several regions of the country.
In the Molise region, a bridge over the Trigno river collapsed this morning. According to local media, there are no reports of casualties, as the section had been closed to vehicles and pedestrians since Wednesday. Heavy rain, accompanied by the heaviest snowfall in eight years, has cut off road connections between Molise and the Abruzzo region.
Problems have also arisen in public transport. At Ancona station, hundreds of passengers waited for hours to board buses, which were unable to move due to extreme weather conditions.
In the Marche region, around 90 residents were trapped after a landslide, while in Puglia, with the capital Bari, large areas of farmland were flooded. As a result, 40 rural residents and 50 drivers were left stranded.
The immediate intervention of firefighters and civil defense forces was crucial in rescuing the trapped people.
Authorities indicate that starting Friday, a gradual improvement in weather conditions is expected, initially in areas of central Italy.
