US President Joe Biden, after calling for an end to a wider regional war following last night's attacks by Iran on Israel, has told allies that the US will not take part in any offensive action against Iran.
In a conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday night, Biden tried to describe Israel's halting the fallout from the Iranian attack as a major victory, while adding that an Israeli response was unnecessary.
"Biden told the Israeli prime minister in his phone conversation that he should consider Saturday a victory because Iran's attacks had been largely unsuccessful and demonstrated Israel's superior military capabilities," a senior administration official said.
John Kirby, the White House Homeland Security spokesman, said today that the ability to prevent widespread damage was a demonstration of Israel's "military superiority" and proof that Iran was not "the military power it claims to be."
