Residents of Baghdad and Erbil, the capital of the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in northern Iraq, reported explosions and the activation of air defense systems on Saturday evening as missiles or drones headed toward the area.
According to the Associated Press, three Iraqi security officials said a rocket landed on a helicopter landing area inside the U.S. embassy compound in Baghdad. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, and a US embassy spokesman declined to comment on the incident. The US State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Iraq's acting Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, condemned the attack on the US embassy, calling it a "terrorist act" carried out by uncontrolled groups.
According to him, security forces and the army have been ordered to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
