Israel has announced it is carrying out a large-scale airstrike on Beirut, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure in the Lebanese capital. The news was announced by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), which said the operation came in response to rocket attacks by the militant group.
According to the Israeli military, Hezbollah has launched dozens of rockets, which has led to an escalation of the situation and the launch of airstrikes on targets related to the organization's infrastructure in Beirut.
The attacks have particularly hit the Dahieh area, on the southern outskirts of the Lebanese capital, an area known as a Hezbollah stronghold.
From the ground, correspondent John Sparks reported that the situation in the city is dramatic and downtown Beirut appears "turned upside down" after the recent attacks.
Clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have intensified tensions in the region, while the situation remains unstable and at risk of further escalation.
