Shortly before Israel's major attack on Iran, pizza orders at the Pentagon increased sharply. Observers see this as an indicator of international crises.
On Friday morning, Israel said it had carried out a large-scale airstrike on Iran. Approximately 200 Israeli warplanes attacked several targets, including military installations in Tehran, the Natanz nuclear facility and other military bases. Iran called the attack a "declaration of war" and vowed revenge.
According to observers at Platform X, an unusually high number of pizza orders around the US Department of Defense is said to have indicated an imminent Israeli attack on Iran.
About an hour before Iranian state television reported the first explosions in Tehran, the "Pentagon Pizza Report" drew attention to unusual activity near the Department of Defense.
Users interpreted the surge in pizza deliveries as a possible indication of an imminent military operation. "As of 6:59 p.m., almost all pizza restaurants near the Pentagon have seen a massive increase in activity," the reporters reported.
The so-called “Pizza Index” is based on the observation that during international crises in which the US is involved in some way, many employees at the Pentagon and other government agencies work longer hours and therefore order more food.
The pizza theory has been circulating in Washington for some time. Pizzerias next to the Pentagon were also much busier than usual during the Israeli missile attack on Iran last year, because while the Pentagon has many fast food restaurants, "there are no pizza restaurants," the restaurant website The Takeout recently reported.
According to reports, the number of pizza deliveries to the Pentagon has increased significantly in the past before major military operations, such as shortly before the US invasion of Panama in December 1989 and before the start of Operation Desert Storm against Iraq in 1991.
