The White House announced on Saturday that US President Donald Trump held phone conversations with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, as well as with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
According to White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt, these calls took place following the launch of major joint US-Israeli military operations against targets in Iran.
Leavitt published the announcement on the X platform, noting that President Trump spoke with the leaders of these Gulf countries and the NATO chief to coordinate and discuss the tense situation in the Middle East.
The phone calls come at a time when Iran has launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks not only on Israel, but also on American bases and Gulf countries that host US forces, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Some of these attacks were reportedly intercepted by air defense systems, but there were injuries and damage in several areas, including one casualty in Abu Dhabi. The talks aim to strengthen coordination between key allies in the region and NATO, as tensions risk escalating into a wider conflict.
President Trump had previously spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to synchronize operations.
The situation remains highly tense, with airspace closures in several countries and calls for de-escalation from the UN and other international actors.
