Moscow-Helsinki, clash also for... wolves; Russian spokeswoman mocks
Maria Zakharova

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has reacted with harsh irony to a CNN report claiming that wolves from Russia are attacking reindeer in Lapland, Finland, causing concern among the region's herders.

In a post on her Telegram channel, Zakharova wrote: “ Congratulations on the new low! Now, according to CNN and some Finnish experts, Russian wolves scaring Lapland reindeer will face... sanctions .”

The Russian diplomat emphasized that these types of reports are not accidental, but part of a deliberate propaganda to brainwash Western countries, further ironically: " The logic is clear: Anyone who does not receive a gift from Santa Claus must understand that the Russians are to blame, even if it comes to wolves ."

The CNN report, titled “ Santa’s Reindeer Are in Danger. Are Wolves from Russia to Blame? ”, referred to growing concerns among Finnish farmers who claim that some of the attacks on their livestock are coming from wild animals crossing the border from Russian territory. The article also linked the phenomenon to the indirect effects of the war in Ukraine, further intensifying Moscow’s response.

Zakharova, at the end of the reaction, sarcastically expressed that perhaps this is "the West's revenge for... piggies", referring to a word recently used by President Putin, who on December 17 called part of the Western elite "podsvinki", a Russian term that translates as "little piggies", a term that shocked and confused many European translators and journalists.
