Trump commands from the phone: Bombings, dirty words and a fragile peace...
In the last 36 hours alone, the Middle East found itself on the brink of a full-scale war, only to be turned back into a sudden, yet fragile, ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
At the center of this spiral was one name: Donald Trump. With posts written in all caps and with abundant use of exclamation marks, the American president restored diplomacy in his strange and impulsive style, which nevertheless caused real shocks on the world geopolitical scene.
Trump's tweets timeline
“MIGA!!!”
Late Sunday, a day after the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, Trump tweeted a coded but strong message: “MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN!”, which was widely interpreted as a call for regime change in Tehran.
“Bullseye!!!”
In the early hours of Monday, he hailed the “monumental damage” to Iran, adding that “destruction” was the right term. “Bullseye!!!,” he wrote, as if he were commenting on a target game.
Attack on "Fake News"
While a US military base in Qatar was hit by Iranian missiles, Trump did not immediately react to the attack, but chose to accuse the media of reporting that did not fully reflect his claims of the "total destruction" of facilities in Iran.
"Very weak response"
Just an hour later, he finally spoke about the Iranian attack, which he called a "very weak response," thanking Iran for warning the Americans in advance. No one was hurt.
Truce
On Monday evening, around 11 p.m., Trump announced the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran, just hours after the attack on the base in Qatar. “CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!” he wrote, as if announcing the end of a reality show.
The outburst of harsh words
But the enthusiasm did not last long. On Tuesday morning, when Israel attacked again just hours before the ceasefire was due to take effect, Trump reacted publicly:
“I need Israel to calm down,” he told reporters angrily, adding: “We have two countries that have fought so long and hard that they don’t know what the hell they’re doing anymore.”
Warning to Israel
In another tweet, Trump wrote that there would be no more attacks on Iran, ironically adding that the planes “will return to base, giving a friendly salute to Iran.” He also added that Iran “will never rebuild its nuclear capabilities again.”
NATO's message
Next, he shared a screenshot that he said was a message from NATO chief Mark Rutte:
"Congratulations and thank you for your decisive action against Iran."
"It was my honor"
In another recent tweet, Trump wrote: "Both Israel and Iran wanted to stop the war. It was my great honor to destroy all nuclear facilities and capabilities, and then... stop the war!"
Currently, Trump is in the Netherlands for the NATO summit, but there is no doubt that his words, or rather, his posts, will continue to shock the world. / Adapted from "Pamphlet" by "Sky News"
