After the assassination of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, even in Belgium there were calls to shoot the head of the executive.
Belgium's prime minister, Alexandre de Croix, appears to have taken measures to strike back when he was told by his staff that a local radio producer had allegedly asked listeners to shoot him.
Politico reports that Prime Minister Alexander de Croix has filed a lawsuit against a local journalist who, during a radio show, urged listeners to shoot the head of government.
As reported, the radio host of local station Wagerem1 did not hesitate to say during his broadcast to take a shot at the Belgian Prime Minister:
"To all those who are thinking of shooting Alexander de Cro, but don't dare because of the security this guy has. You see it is possible to shoot a prime minister. So I would say: Go ahead!”.
In a post on social media, Barde Leitz, director of communications for the prime minister's office, said that this journalist in particular called on listeners to open fire despite the security surrounding the prime minister of Belgium.
He added that the journalist's words were spoken a few hours after the assassination of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, an event which he commented on live broadcast.
"Calling for violence is reprehensible. The complaint was submitted to the Varegem police. The Prime Minister is continuing his campaign as normal," said his spokesman.
On the other hand, the journalist tried to justify that he was misunderstood, showing that what was heard on his show about 3 weeks before the federal election on June 9, he said as a joke.
