The head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, has reacted to the statements of US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, accusing the American leadership of hypocrisy.
In a post on the social network X, Larijani stated that Iranian leaders continue to be present among citizens.
"Mr. Hegseth! Our leaders have been and are still among the people. What about yours? On Epstein's Island," he wrote.
The reaction came after Hegseth, during a press conference, stated that the Iranian leadership is under pressure and is avoiding public appearances.
"They have gone into hiding, hiding, like rats do," the Pentagon chief said.
In his post, Larijani also published two videos showing Iran's President, Masoud Pezeshkian, and the head of the Iranian judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni Eje'i, participating in public activities.
The statements reflect an escalation of rhetoric between senior Iranian and United States officials at a time of ongoing tensions in relations between the two countries.
