A shocking video of the explosion that occurred in the early hours of Christmas morning in the Evosmos area of Thessaloniki has been made public by Greek media. Footage obtained from a security camera shows the exact second when the explosive device was activated at the intersection of Karoli & Dimitriu and Salaminos streets, causing a powerful explosion that severely damaged the nearby bank branch, the facades of surrounding buildings and seven parked vehicles.

Greek authorities have intensified investigations, while the case has now been taken over by the Organized Crime Unit, due to suspicions that we are dealing with a well-organized act, which may be linked to organized crime circles in Greece.

Greek media sources close to the investigation team report that the explosive device was professionally constructed, while its placement was part of a well-calculated plan. It is not excluded that persons with criminal records were involved in this act.

The investigation is also focused on the strong similarity to another explosion that occurred in May this year, also in front of a branch of the same bank, on Agiou Dimitriou Street in central Thessaloniki. In that case, a 39-year-old woman carrying the explosive device lost her life after the bomb went off.

For that event, authorities had arrested a 36-year-old man, in whose name an Airbnb apartment was registered where quantities of explosives and detonators were found, as well as another 42-year-old man who allegedly had sheltered the woman in his apartment in the Dendropotamos area, in the western part of the city.

Investigations are in full swing, while authorities are not ruling out any leads, including those linked to organized criminal networks that may be related to money laundering, text messaging, or targeted economic destabilization.
