The plane carrying the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Armed Forces, General Mohamed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ankara.

In March 2023, he signed a military agreement with Italy in Rome for the training of Libyan special forces.

With the US, in July 2024, he met with AFRICOM leadership to discuss supporting the unification of the Libyan army and strengthening border security.
