Russia does not participate in Davos summit, Kremlin: Peace talks will not work without Moscow

The Kremlin said today that talks in Davos on Ukraine's peace proposals will not work as Russia is not participating.

President Vladimir Putin sent thousands of troops to Ukraine in February 2022, sparking the biggest standoff between the West and Moscow since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, French President Emmanuel Macron and key Middle Eastern leaders are expected to attend this week's World Economic Forum, where the wars in Gaza and Ukraine will be the focus.

"These are just talks for the sake of talks. This process cannot aim to achieve specific results when we are not involved. Without our participation, any discussion will have no result," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said when asked about the Davos summit.

Russia, which controls less than a fifth of Ukrainian territory, has rejected Zelensky's peace plan, known as the 'peace formula', as absurd.
