The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards' intelligence services, Majid Khademi, has been killed in an airstrike carried out by the US and Israel, Iranian state media confirmed.
According to an official statement carried by state agencies, Major General Khademi was killed at dawn during a bombing on Iranian territory. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the incident as a direct act of aggression and warned of a response.
Khademi headed the Intelligence Protection Organization and also had a key role in the intelligence structures of the Revolutionary Guard, one of the most powerful military and security institutions in Iran.
The IRGC statement said that details about the funeral ceremony will be made public in the coming days.
Officials in Washington and Tel Aviv have not yet publicly reacted to Tehran's claims.
Security analysts, quoted by international media, estimate that such a development could further escalate tensions in the Middle East, especially at a time when relations between Iran and Israel are already fragile and characterized by repeated incidents.
Iranian authorities describe Khadem's killing as a significant loss for national security structures, while warning that they will take measures in response to what they call a "coordinated international attack."
