An explosive device exploded in the center of Athens, at 01:29 am (local time), on Stadiou street near the Ministry of Labour.
Material damage was caused by the explosion.
A TEEM team immediately went to the scene, while the police surrounded the area and are investigating the incident.
"Due to a suspicious object, the circulation of vehicles has been prohibited on "Stadiou" street, at the height of its intersection with "Pesmazoglou" street, the Greek authorities announced.
At 00:49, an unknown person warned about the existence of an explosive mechanism in the Ministry of Labor. According to the information, there was also a second phone call, in which it is said that the device was placed outside a bank located near the ministry, in Korai.
The unknown person said that he was calling on behalf of the revolutionary organization "Self-defense of the revolutionary class". The police are immediately on the move, surrounding the area and stopping traffic on "Stadhiu" street in the Hellenic capital.
Legal experts are investigating the composition of the bomb and have launched a search to find the perpetrators. The organization "Self-defense of the revolutionary class", which the police say is a terrorist group of the extreme left, is the first time it appears in Greece.
Authorities suspect a resurgence of activity by left-wing Marxist extremists, who have planted dozens of homemade bombs and explosive devices over the past 10-15 years.
Subsequently, the Greek authorities were able to neutralize some of them, sending to prison for 10-20 years the members of these groups arrested during the several-year war of the Greek state against the far-left archist groups.

"Today, February 3, 2024, at 00:48, the Immediate Action Center was notified through a phone call from Gazeta e Redaktoreve that they received a call regarding the placement of an explosive substance in the Ministry of Labor, which would explode in 40 minutes.
The area is surrounded by police forces who immediately went to the scene, diverting the traffic.
The mechanism exploded at 01:29, causing material damage.
A preliminary investigation is being carried out by the Anti-Terrorist Service (DAEB)".
