Vice President Delcy Rodríguez demanded to know if the presidential couple were alive. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López announced the immediate deployment of all armed forces throughout the territory and said the country would resist foreign invasion.
US President Donald Trump has reacted for the first time to the military strikes that hit Venezuela, using the social network Truth. He confirmed international media claims that the United States was responsible for the attack and announced that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife have been captured by US forces and taken out of the country.
In his post, Trump wrote that the operation was successful. "The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale attack on Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolás Maduro, who, along with his wife, has been captured and taken out of the country. This operation was carried out in cooperation with U.S. law enforcement. More details to follow.
