Trump-Starmer meeting highlights US-UK friendship!

President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, after their closed-door meeting in the Oval Office, held a joint press conference where they answered questions from reporters.

Trump said he spoke with Starmer about Ukraine and Russia, as well as trade relations between the two countries. During the conference, Trump and Starmer had both points of disagreement and agreement.

The divisions were over the deal with Putin and the idea of peace in Ukraine. The British Prime Minister stated that it is difficult to trust Putin, while Trump stressed with confidence that Russia will not invade Ukraine again.

The point on which the two leaders agreed was to review trade relations between the two countries to avoid the 25 percent tax that the US wants to impose on Europe.

Questions during the joint press conference at the White House:

-Will there be a trade agreement with the UK?

Trump : We've had great discussions on trade and I think we're going to have a deal pretty quickly. As soon as we can. We'll have something, I think, very soon.

-Do you support Article 5 of NATO? (Article 5 is the clause that says NATO allies must come to each other's aid if they are attacked.)

Trump : I support it. I don't think we'll have any reason for that. I think we'll have a very successful peace and I think it'll be a long, lasting peace.

-Is there a guarantee that the US will provide military support to a peace agreement for Ukraine?

Starmer : If there is a deal on Ukraine, it has to be a deal that lasts. President Trump said this morning that the US and the UK stand by each other. And today we have talked about the deal, about how it will be a lasting deal, and from that, our teams will now talk in detail about us.

-Will you apologize to President Zelensky for calling him a dictator?

Trump : I'm going to have a great meeting with Zelensky tomorrow. I have a lot of respect for him.

-Has the Prime Minister convinced you not to impose tariffs on the UK?

Trump : He tried. He works hard. I will tell you he earned whatever salary they pay him there, but he tried. I think there's a very good chance that, in the case of these two great friendly countries, I think we could very well end up with a real trade deal where tariffs wouldn't be necessary. We'll see. In all fairness, in all seriousness, I think we have a very good chance of reaching a very good deal.

-Do you think President Putin is a man of his word, as that is what Trump thinks?

Starmer : My concern is that if there is a deal, and I hope there is a deal, it should be a lasting deal, that it is not a temporary measure.

And that's why I think it's really important for Putin to know that this agreement, a historic agreement that I really hope for, is a sustainable agreement and that we are able to deal with any inclination that he has to go back or go further.

Trump closes the press conference by saying : I think we're going to have two deals. I think we're going to have a deal to end the war, and I think we're going to end up with a great trade deal with you.
