Aid workers say hunger has intensified over the past 22 months of the war due to aid restrictions imposed by Israel.
Despair has gripped the Palestinian territory of more than two million people, which experts warn faces a "worst-case scenario of famine" due to Israel's blockade.
Israel enforced a complete blockade on food and other supplies for about two months starting in March, and aid organizations say the airlifts of food allowed in recent days do little to ease the situation.
Israel claims its objective is to increase pressure on Hamas to release dozens of hostages it has been holding since its attack on October 7, 2023, although observers from groups including the UN accuse Israel of deliberately starving Palestinians as a means of ethnic cleansing.
In recent weeks, Israel's blockade of supplies to the territory by land has prompted countries to resume efforts to deliver aid by air.
The planes that flew this morning were registered in Jordan, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Germany, Belgium, France.
The first planes approached Gaza just after 8:20 a.m. UK time, while the last left the area at around 9:40 a.m. According to flight tracking data, a total of eight planes were used in the operation.
Meanwhile, people in central Gaza have rushed to collect aid after it was parachuted in today.
A number of countries have sent aid to Gaza, but humanitarian organizations say this is not enough to significantly improve the dire situation.
