Twenty-six people are expected to appear before the court in Bari on March 23, as part of Operation "Ura", an investigation by the Antimafia Investigation Directorate (DIA) that has uncovered links between an Albanian criminal group and the Parisi-Palermiti clans in the Japigia area.

The investigation, coordinated by prosecutors Ettore Cardinali and Daniela Chimienti, focuses on international trafficking of large quantities of heroin and cocaine, money laundering and cases of abuse of office. According to the DIA, since 2016, drug movements between the Balkans, Northern Europe, South America and the Puglia region have been documented.

Italian authorities report that shipments involving around 255 kilograms of pure heroin and cocaine have been documented, arriving in Bari from Albania and Northern Europe. The investigation has also reconstructed a continuous flow of money from Puglia to Albania, as payment for drugs traded in bulk. According to the prosecution, the transactions, totaling around 4.5 million euros, were carried out through international bus drivers.

In the same context, the transfer of over 500 thousand dollars from Albania to Latin America as prepayment for a shipment of 500 kilograms of cocaine from Guayaquil, Ecuador, is also mentioned.

According to investigators, the Albanian criminal group is suspected of being responsible for the international supply and transfer of narcotics, while the Parisi-Palermiti clans in Bari are suspected of being involved in cutting, packaging and wholesale distribution in the areas of Bari, Brindisi and Lecce.

Among the Italian defendants is Massimiliano Fiore, described by the DIA as a key link between Albanian traffickers and the Palermiti clan. Investigators suspect that he was integrated into the criminal network of the Madonnella neighborhood and in contact with suspected leaders of the Albanian group, including Adi Coba, 33, and Erigels Presi, 36, as well as the head of the Japigia clan, Eugenio Palermiti.

During a search of a villa in Torre a Mare, attributed to Fiore and seized in October, authorities report finding equipment suspected of being used for packaging narcotics.

The preliminary hearing will open on March 23. Judge Cafagna is expected to decide in the coming months whether the defendants will be sent to trial. According to reports, the detention order for some of them expires in May.
