The author Dritan Demiraj and the two victims, Lidia Nusdorfi and Silvio Mannina

He was laid up in a vegetative state and no longer remembered anything that had happened. Dritan Demiraj, 39 years old, died on April 27 in a hospital in Parma. Otherwise known as the "killer of the lake" in Romagna, between February 28 and March 1, 2014, the Albanian killed Silvio Mannina in Santarcangelo, Romagna.

First, he tortured him and forced him through torture to meet his fiance Lidia Nusdorfi, the former partner and mother of the Albanian's children.

A trap to rendezvous at the station of Mozzate, near Como, to kill him with a knife. For these two murders, Demiraj was sentenced to life imprisonment. But in 2016, he was brutally beaten by another prisoner in Parma. Demiraj suffered cerebral damage. He started behaving like a child, losing his memory. However, the position of the family members is unwavering. "I don't cry for this death," says Silvio Mannina's sister, Simona.

"You in hell, my brother in heaven and always in my heart. Waking up on Sunday morning with this news is not worth it," she wrote in a post on Facebook.

The murders of Dritan Demiraj, the Albanian who worked as a pastry chef in Romagna and who with justice had several precedents as a distributor and various attacks, shocked the whole of Italy at that time. They were heinous crimes. First, the murder of his ex-partner, Lidia Nusdorfi, was learned. The crime against her fiancé Silvio Mannina, who lived with difficulty in Bologna, was discovered later, at a second moment. The corpse was hidden in the lake of Santarcangelo, because Demiraj's intention was to make Lidia's murder appear to have been committed by Mannina. The latter had been tricked into going to Rimini. Meanwhile, Demiraj had met Monica Sanchi, the woman who later became his partner, at Bingo in Riccione.

It was Sanchi who helped her lover to implement the plans. He lured Mannina through Facebook and lured him to Rimini. But the confectioner and his uncle Sadik Dine showed up at the meeting, the latter also sentenced to life imprisonment as an accomplice. While Monica Sanchi died in prison in 2019 from cancer. She was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

"I don't cry for Dritan Demiraj's death," Mannina's sister continues to repeat. "We, the family members, felt abandoned. Such a man, who cannot even be called a man, had the opportunity to seek compensation for the attack he suffered. But we don't".

The legal representative, Alessandro Buzzoni, explains the reason. "Demiraj was declared incapable of understanding and reasoning, he was released from prison and ended up in the hospital. He was not a rich person and it was impossible for him to receive compensation". The one who appealed to the state for the attack he suffered in prison was the lawyer of the Albanian pastry chef Massimiliano Orrù. As for the end of other people involved in this event, there is a common denominator: a sad, tragic and dramatic end, marked by fate.

"Of course we think that this process is like life marked by fate", explains lawyer Buzzoni. "They (family members) believe that Silvio Mannina has learned their fate from above. It is as if divine justice has struck the perpetrators of these murders. In fact it seems that they were judged from above, although we must remember that it is ugly to say or think it and divine justice should not be mentioned. The truth is that this story was presented for what it is: a dramatic and brutal event." / Corriere della sera
