"The Papyri of Hades": How a Woman's Pleasure Turns into a Public

When a woman's pleasure is called a sin, her body becomes a prison. And when she dares to say 'This body is mine', society punishes her with public judgment and digital humiliation. 'The Papyri of Hades' shows us why female freedom is still criminalized...

From an early age, girls are taught that their desire is shameful, pleasure is sinful, and their bodies do not belong to them.

This is the "papyrus of Hades" that patriarchal society gives to every woman, teaching her to live in an invisible prison where she is both her own prisoner and guardian.

In our culture, female beauty is often reduced to a market currency: the younger, the more valuable; the older, the more worthless. A cynical logic that sees women as images to be consumed, not as beings to be respected.

From body control to digital revenge

But the harshest punishment begins when a woman dares to say: "This body is mine, it is not to be judged." That's when the system of cultural and technological violence hits her with the newest weapon of the 21st century: revenge porn.

In this cruel act, the woman is no longer seen as a mother, daughter, professional, or citizen; her mind, personality, and strength are erased. She is reduced to nothing more than an image displayed publicly to humiliate and judge her. Thus, her pleasure, her desire, and her right to live freely are criminalized.

Albanian reality

In Albania too, cases of “digital revenge” have increased. Young girls are threatened with the publication of intimate photos, some have been driven to suicide by societal pressure. And instead of the victim being protected, it is often the victim who is stigmatized, while the perpetrators are silenced or protected by male cultures of silence.

The law exists, but it does not heal the biggest wound: the imposed shame that society places on the victim, not the perpetrator.

From imposed morality to the right to pleasure

Why is a woman's pleasure seen as a threat, while violence against her is seen as normal? This is the question that should stir the public conscience.

Instead of criminalizing desire, we should criminalize violence. Instead of humiliating the victim, we should shame the perpetrator. And instead of writing new 'papyruses of Hades' about the female body, we should open a new chapter, where pleasure is not a crime, but a fundamental human right./ Pamphlet
