Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has imposed a blockade in Brussels today. According to the Greek media, Mitsotakis has reiterated Greece's firm position on the case of Fredi Beleri.

Greece has managed to block the process of Albania's integration into the EU. As it was warned, the EU will not decide to open integration chapters for our country.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has imposed a blockade in Brussels today. According to the Greek media, Mitsotakis has reiterated Greece's firm position on the case of Fredi Beleri.

" The issue of Fredi Beleri taking office and his right to a fair trial is not a bilateral Greece-Albania issue, but a matter of respect for the rule of law, which is the crown of the accession process. Our country remains one of the pioneers of the Western Balkans membership perspective ", Mitsotakis is reported to have said.

Prime Minister Edi Rama and his Greek counterpart Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a short conversation on the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans Summit.

"Greece's position is to support the European perspective of the Western Balkans, as an investment in the stability, development and prosperity of the region.

This is as long as the candidate countries meet the conditions and implement the required reforms. It is a difficult and arduous process that depends on the performance of the candidate countries themselves. And, in any case, a fundamental prerequisite is the respect of fundamental European values and reforms regarding the rule of law and especially the protection of human rights, including the rights of minorities.

Regarding Albania's accession process, Greece's position is clear and has been explained to the Albanian side. Greece will not accept the membership process if there is no progress in the case of Fredi Beleri ", concluded Mitsotakis.

Meanwhile, the EU itself in its report on Albania calls for political dialogue. " The Council recalls that comprehensive and constructive political dialogue in the country remains essential to advance the adoption of EU-related reforms ," the announcement states.

Among other things, the Council takes a positive note of the concrete results achieved by the Special Structures against Corruption and Organized Crime and the ongoing good cooperation with the law enforcement agencies of the EU and member states.

" Efforts to create a solid history in the fight against corruption and organized crime must continue. Increased cooperation in investigations is also needed, including with the European Anti-Fraud Office ," the report said.
