Agron Gjekmarkaj, the Democratic Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, during a debate at the Conference of Speakers, ironized the chairman of the Committee for Civic Initiatives, Cooperation and Institutional Oversight, Fatmir Xhafaj, describing him as a 'chairman' elected to control the Speaker of the Assembly.
The standing committee, which is headed by Xhafaj, has a supervisory role over the actions of committees or internal bodies in relation to the implementation of laws and recommendations.
"Regardless of the fact that you are coming from a farce election, the Assembly has elected a speaker and it is not necessary for us to elect another speaker to control the speaker."
"A State Department report came out yesterday. The Assembly should create space to talk about the fundamental issues that were raised by that report. Crime, corruption, a dark reality. But you are running away from the truth by creating a false reality. You are also running away from the responsibility to speak for your government because you are afraid of transparency," said Gjekmarkaj.
