Tributes are being held at the Palace of Congresses in honor of former Prime Minister Fatos Nano, who passed away on October 31 at the age of 73.

Among the citizens who paid homage at the public ceremony was Lulzim Basha, the former leader of the Democratic Party. Basha, accompanied by Oriola Pampuri, his former MP and supporter during the internal clashes in the Democratic Party, paid homage simultaneously with several other political figures such as Skënder Gjinushi, former Speaker of the Parliament, or Elisa Spiropali, Foreign Minister.

In addition to senior exponents of the Socialist Party and numerous citizens, opposition officials also participated in the tribute, such as the leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, the leader of the PAA, Agron Duka, and the DP MP, Arjan Ndoja.

It is also reported that Fatos Nano's family members are present, including his wife, Xhoana Nano, son Sokoli, and ex-wife Rexhina.

Public tributes have begun at 8:30 this morning. Then, from 11:15-11:45, tributes from state figures and the diplomatic corps will take place.

The ceremony will also be attended by political figures from Kosovo and North Macedonia, including Albin Kurti and Ali Ahmeti.

In respect for his contribution to the public and political life of the country, November 2 has also been declared a national day of mourning.

All flags in state institutions will be lowered to half-mast and at 12:00 all activities will stop to observe a minute of silence.

Fatos Nano was the leader of the Socialist Party for 14 years, as well as the country's prime minister for a few years on and off.
