"They made the wrong calculations because the project will be done. I don't have a plan B, just for the European Union, for everything else I'm on plan C," said Rama.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the meeting of the SP group, while listing major infrastructure projects, also focused on the Porto Romano project, for which the American Chamber of Commerce requested a review of the tender.
Rama reacted to criticism and efforts to review the Porto Romano project, warning that the government will not back down.
The Prime Minister described the process as one of the most complex that the government has undertaken.
"I want to say a few words about Porto Romano. It is one of the most complicated processes we have undertaken. It is a strategic plan that has also created jealousy. Jealousies are common among countries that are at certain stages of development.
"A very sophisticated process with the project of the largest studio in the world and with the most absolute reputation in the world for building infrastructure, an extraordinary competition with participation from all sides, but monitored by the consultant Royal Haskoning and hostility towards the project," said Rama.
In the same speech, Rama accused opponents of the project of undertaking efforts to obstruct it and implied that the government knows the actors who are acting against it.
"I won't speak at length, but I will say one thing: Those who are fighting the project, those who are leaving no stone unturned to block the project, and we know who they are. They have made the wrong calculations because the project will be done. I don't have a plan B, only for the European Union, for everything else I am a C," said Rama.
The prime minister's statement places the Porto Romano project at the center of the clash between the government and critics who are demanding a review of its procedures.
The head of the American Chamber of Commerce in Tirana, Grant Van Cleeve, has sent an email to Prime Minister Edi Rama and several senior government officials regarding the Porto Romano port project and the tender scheduled for March 9.
In his letter, Van Cleeve describes the decision on this project as a strategic moment for Albania, emphasizing that ports are usually built only once a century and that their initial dimension determines the country's economic and geopolitical potential for decades.
According to Van Cleeve, the current project for Porto Romano is very limited in size and risks not utilizing Albania's strategic potential in the region.
