London strong message to Rama: The government must be accountable to the

We welcomed His Excellency the President's call yesterday for an active parliament that holds the executive accountable through continued demand for transparency and accountability...

The internationals have come out today with a strong message for politics. The USA, the EU and Great Britain have sought consensus on the electoral reform and other reforms that are waiting to be passed in the Assembly.

But the strongest reaction was from the British Embassy, a reaction which addresses both the majority and the opposition, but which seems to hit the prime minister hard. Yesterday, the British ambassador was in the Assembly hall, where there were tensions.

Today, the embassy has made it clear that the government will have to give an account to the Parliament. Rama refuses the investigative commissions and also does not take any steps back, giving Berisha the opportunity to create tensions. But for the British, the Assembly is the place that controls the government and it should be functional, without fights and conflicts.

" The British Embassy in Tirana has always supported Albanian aspirations for a functioning parliament and democracy. This requires structures that enable citizens and their elected representatives to draft laws, hold government to account and debate important issues to reflect the interests of citizens. This includes full implementation of OSCE/ODIHR recommendations on elections. We welcomed His Excellency the President's call yesterday for an active parliament that holds the executive accountable through continued demand for transparency and accountability and to replace political conflict with constructive cooperation. We call on all politicians to listen to this message ", says the British embassy.

Like the US-EU, they have also refuted Lulzim Basha. The embassy declares that there has been no mediation with politics to resume the work on the electoral reform.

" While we have not brokered any political agreement, we continue to encourage mutually respectful and constructive dialogue in good faith between those who wish to represent the Albanian people. This is in the national interest and also crucial for the trust of international partners and foreign investments, to build a better future for all Albanians ", the embassy says.

As for the electoral reform, earlier it was the press office of the American Embassy that shot down the possibility of mediation of the diplomatic headquarters in overcoming the crisis in the special parliamentary commission for Electoral Reform.

In response to the media, Embassy officials have stated that they will continue to meet regularly with the chairmen, co-chairmen and members of various parliamentary commissions, including the Special Commission for Electoral Reform, underlining that the meetings are not part of any mediation.

" As part of our normal diplomatic engagement with members of parliament, the US Embassy meets regularly with chairs, co-chairs, and members of various parliamentary committees, including the Electoral Reform Commission. Meetings are not part of any mediation. Our interest remains in effective and representative governance to implement ODIHR's recommendations and we welcome the ideas of all responsible parties for this purpose ", underlines the press office of the American Embassy.

The EU delegation in Tirana has taken the same position, rejecting the statements made by the head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha.

" In response to the reports circulating in the media, we would like to clarify that while the EU is not involved in any mediation, our position remains the same: we continue to emphasize the need to follow the recommendations of the OSCE/ODIHR. As we have said before, including the 2023 Report for Albania, the electoral reform requires a constructive and comprehensive political dialogue of all parties" , says the reaction of the EU delegation. / Pamphlet
