"Masquerade in The Hague"/ Rama attacks the Special Court: Innocence
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama has not spared his attacks on the Kosovo Special Court, which is located in The Hague, where 4 former KLA leaders are being tried, including former President Hashim Thaçi.

While he considers the pretense of the Prosecutors seeking 180 years in prison for the 4 former KLA leaders as nonsense, Rama also requested the intervention of US President Donald Trump, during a speech he gave at the first official meeting of the Peace Board, which was held in Washington.

While expressing strong concern about what he described as the "incredible masquerade" of international justice in the Kosovo Specialist Chambers, Rama stressed that the prosecution has failed to prove the allegations of the criminal character of the KLA and considered the request for 45 years in prison as unfair.

" I am of course glad for the echo of the speech I gave on behalf of Albania, where I conveyed worldwide our national concern about the incredible masquerade of International Justice in The Hague, towards Hashim Thaçi and the liberators of Kosovo.

"I am confident that the new level of awareness regarding that court, until today, without any democratic standards, where the prosecution shamefully failed to prove that the KLA was a criminal enterprise and was finally released in despair with the cruel request for 45 years in prison for Hashim Thaçi and the three other leaders of the liberation war, will affect the accountability of the judging panel, which must choose between justice for Kosovo and the shame of Kosovo's detractors, the innocence of the liberators and the vileness of their persecutors, the dignity of a court and its ultimate self-desecration ," Rama declared in his podcast.

Rama declared that international awareness of this issue will affect the accountability of the trial panel, emphasizing that the final decision must be in accordance with democratic standards and principles of justice.

During a speech in Washington, the Prime Minister criticized the Special Court in The Hague, which has been holding Thaçi and others in custody for more than five years. He said that democratic states that sponsor the court “should be ashamed of this kind of justice.”

" Today, the President of Kosovo has spent six years in detention by a special court in The Hague, sponsored by a number of democratic states, some of them present here and who should be ashamed of that kind of international justice. Just last week, Mr. President, another prosecutor funded by this great country and its taxpayers, demanded 45 years in prison for him, a demand that sent a shockwave of humiliation throughout a peace-loving country."

And at this point, there are only a few months that stand between a man who rose from resistance to ethnic cleansing to become a peacemaker and a devastating outcome from a court that has so far failed, at every turn, to adhere to the standards of democratic justice. For God's sake, Mr. President, let's do something before, as you say, very bad things can happen again ," Rama declared.

The trial of former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi is underway at the Special Court in The Hague.

The former KLA leaders have been in the Hague detention center since November 2020. They have been charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity. The Special Prosecutor's Office in The Hague has requested a total of 180 years in prison (45 years for each). Its charges have been dismissed by the defense lawyers of the 4 former KLA leaders.

The Special Court has 90 days to announce the decision.  /Pamphlet/
