A national protest called by the Democratic Party has begun. Militants have gathered in front of the Prime Minister's Office, joined by leader Sali Berisha. The rally began with chants of "Rama out".
This is the fourth national protest of the DP in 2026, after the rallies of January 24, February 10 and 20. Unlike other times, this time there is no podium and no speeches by political leaders are expected. The DP has only installed a phone, where militants are oriented on how to act.
The organizers have chosen a field march format, aiming to move towards the main institutions in the capital.
The initial gathering is taking place in front of the Prime Minister's Office, which has been surrounded by a metal fence as a security measure. Around 1,500 police forces have been placed on standby and deployed near buildings of particular importance. The "Eagle" forces, equipped with preventive equipment, including fire extinguishers, have also been deployed on the ground, taking into account incidents recorded in previous protests.
According to the plan made public by sources within the opposition, after gathering in front of the Prime Minister's Office, the protesters are expected to march towards several state institutions, excluding the Parliament. It is likely that one of the stops could be the headquarters of the Socialist Party, which could lead to blockage of the main traffic axes in Tirana.
Earlier, Sali Berisha warned that the protest could move to the SP headquarters, not ruling out escalation scenarios. However, it has been previously confirmed that there will be no use of pyrotechnics.
The Democratic Party demands the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the creation of a caretaker government that will prepare the country for early elections, while developments on the ground are expected to determine the further dynamics of the protest.
