Analyst Fatos Lubonja described Prime Minister Edi Rama as a leader who aims for complete control of political and public life in the country. According to him, Albania is moving towards an authoritarian model, where criticism of the government is constantly suppressed.
Lubonja also commented on the Prime Minister's statements and Sali Berisha's behavior with the reactions towards the EU Ambassador, Silvio Gonzato.
While stating that Rama has international ambassadors under his control, he described Berisha's tactic of attacking the EU ambassador for his sexual preferences as wrong, diverting attention from the real problems facing the country and the opposition. He described Rama as a "typical narcissist."
"This is the system, power cannot be maintained without these types of tenders, so that with this money you can buy votes, control power, pay patronage agents. Just create a new facade, because nothing else can change. Change everything without changing anything, that's it. He doesn't allow criticism, the opposition is a mirror and Rama breaks this mirror, a typical narcissist, I think it's more of a psychological problem ," Lubonja said, among other things.
And he emphasized that:
"This is because we have built an authoritarian regime that is heading towards Putinism. The main problem in the country is Rama's authoritarian regime. We are also dealing with psychological elements. With the mental illness of a man who cannot see himself in the mirror. When he demonizes, he breaks the mirror, he wants you to see things the way you want. He does not only attack the opposition, but also journalists. Everything that criticizes this man must be broken."
Regarding the opposition, the analyst explained that the country's integration cannot be achieved without it, but it is not doing its job well, by not addressing the main problems or the lack of unity of the opposition factor.
"The country's integration process cannot be done without the opposition. The opposition says, for example, that there is corruption, you say no. The latest is the Reporters Without Borders report that brought the country down several places and this one attacked them. Rama wants to eliminate all the actors, including the opposition. We are sure that this is a narco-state, but how can a narco-state enter the EU? But the opposition has not done its job well either ," he said.
And continuing his analysis, Lubonja explained it with Berisha's recent statements to Ambassador Gonzato. He explained that there are ambassadors who are controlled by Rama, but the opposition should not deal with specific names, but with issues and facts.
"Berisha deals with Gonzato, but does not deal with the problems as a whole, he deals with Gonzato and tells him that he is a homosexual who has no interest, he should deal with what is of interest. That Rama has ambassadors, this was also seen during the time of Yuri Kim. But there needs to be an opposition without complexes, to be direct and with arguments. Because in terms of the statement, people say what kind of person is this who deals with the sexuality of others. Berisha, with his statements, sets Gonzato against himself. Now I think that Rama has his ambassadors, he has seized his embassies, but to this problem there needs to be a serious, rational opposition, because reality falls when the facts do not hold up. With the McGonigal case, we have it clear that he was paid to attack the opposition here in Albania. So here lies the problem, to have integrity in the accusations, to be direct and to have courage. Gonzato is Rama's ambassador, but we need to be careful with the accusations that are made, to focus on the problem", the analyst continued his comment.
Lubonja explained that even internationals know that Albania is in a narco-state or narco-regime, and even the ambassadors themselves know it, as they see a rotation in the country as necessary, despite the "sins of the opposition."
"The ambassadors know that Albania is a narco-state. Despite the sins of the opposition, I am for rotation, but change does not come immediately, it is a process. These are intrigues of the SP and Rama to eliminate the opponent, by dividing and attacking them. Therefore, we also have a weakening of the opposition, because it does not bring results now and then, with the last mile and people get bored and leave," he said.
For Lubonja, the current state of the opposition is due to the intrigues of the Socialist Party and Rama, who have constantly divided and attacked him.
"So the opposition's situation is the result of the intrigues of the Socialist Party. Rama has been working continuously to eliminate the opposition, to divide it. I think that the opposition and Berisha's DP are not playing a unifying factor, they need to unite, to create this unity first because it is difficult to talk about victory. But when you remove some people, the party consequently weakens. You have to allow change and receive more contributions. The party improves with dialogue, democracy and criticism. I see the problem more as a cultural one, not as an individual, do we have the culture for change, or should we put a patriarch and be a puppet, Berisha says I am me and only I unite you. This is the reality and it is not only Albanian, look at Greece, Mitsotakis and Papandreou have been at the helm for a long time, but at least there was also dialectics between them. We lack this, the first one who has the majority eliminates the others. This one doesn't want dialectics, this one removes them, you are a garbage can, he says, or as the latter (Rama) said, "a species that must be extinct ," he concluded on News 24.
