Xhemal Gjunkshi, former DP MP, was one of the participants in the meeting initiated by Ervin Salianji, where Ilir Alimehmeti, Aulon Kalaja and Hysen Kadiu also participated.
The meeting, organized in one of the private venues in Tirana, seems to have caused concerns in the DP leadership, while Sali Berisha, in a reaction to it, said that the media coverage aims to draw attention away from the Government's scandals.
But Gjunkshi, in a reaction on social media, clarified that the meeting was not related to the creation of any new political formation, but emphasized that it was completely friendly.
"About the meeting held in Tirana between democrats!
I want to publicly clarify an issue that arose after a friendly meeting between Democratic friends in Tirana. As I have always done over the years, I met with friends and associates of the Democratic Party to discuss issues related to the political situation in the country.
My participation in this meeting has nothing to do with any kind of initiative to create a new political formation. I have been, am and will remain institutionally committed to the Democratic Party, to its principles, in the service of my electorate who voted for me and trusted me.
I have not been and am not part of any initiative that aims to create alternatives outside of this party.
"It was just a coffee among democratic friends with discussions on the current political situation," writes Gjunkshi.
