Tomorrow, the recount begins for all polling centers in Fier and Tirana, while this process will partially begin for Durrës and Elbasan.
Following the request of the opposition coalition Democratic Party-Alliance for Greater Albania, 1,282 ballot boxes are expected to be recounted in the capital.
In total, 2,323 voting centers will be opened, including 85 ballot boxes from abroad. The process will take place in the 4 regions of Tirana, Fier, Elbasan and Durrës and will cost around 21 million new lek. The CEC has stated that it will not request additional budget, as it has saved and the 21 million new lek budget will go to the registration system and online transmission of results, logistical infrastructure and for envelopes and auxiliary materials.
The opposition hopes to find 1,300 votes in its favor, which will give it the 14th mandate, which the Mundësia Party lost in the May 11 race after the counting of emigrant votes. The recount in Tirana also increases the chances for those who had a close race on the open list, but did not manage to win the mandate.
Meanwhile, for Fier, the Democratic Party says that there is evidence in the ballot boxes that proves the manipulation of the electoral process, although in the Fier district the ASHM coalition managed to obtain only 4 mandates, compared to 12 that the Socialist Party obtained. In total, 587 ballot boxes will be opened.
Also, the opening of 97 ballot boxes in Peqin and Gramsh is expected to verify the irregularities claimed by the DP. The ballots will not be recounted for the purpose of the result, but only to compare the data in the ballot boxes with those in the minutes.
