A serious incident shook the city of Lipjan in Kosovo on Monday evening, where a 27-year-old man lost his life while being escorted by the Police. Five police officers have been arrested as suspects in the death of the young man, Agron Zejnullahu, who passed away in the early hours of July 7, on "Haradin Bajrami" street.
According to official sources, the police had intervened after reports that Zejnullahu was in a drunken state and was attacking citizens on the street. But the situation deteriorated into tragedy; the young man lost his life during the intervention of a police team consisting of a sergeant and four other officers.
The Kosovo Police Inspectorate and the Basic Prosecution Office of Pristina have immediately launched investigations. "After interviewing police officers and administering other evidence, the arrest of five officers as suspects in the incident has been decided. By order of the prosecutor, they have been ordered to be detained for 48 hours," confirmed the IPK.
Meanwhile, the victim's family has filed direct charges against the Police, claiming that Zejnullahu died as a result of the violence inflicted on him. Pending the results of the autopsy and forensic examinations, investigators warn of further action to clarify the full circumstances of the death.
The pamphlet will closely follow the developments of this serious case, which has sparked strong reactions in public opinion and is bringing back attention to concerns about police violence and abuse of power.
